Hyssop is a plant from the mint family with healing properties. This small plant was used as a tool for divine cleansing and restored relationship. God uses the ordinary to carry out the extraordinary!
The Lord instructed the Israelites to use it to paint their doorposts at the first Passover (Exodus 12). It was used in cleansing rituals (Leviticus 14, Numbers 19), and David prayed for a heart-deep cleansing that only God could provide (Psalm 51). Finally, we read about hyssop again at the cross (John 19).
